Summer camp is back for the Boys & Girls Club of North Louisiana. It was canceled last year due to the pandemic.

The Boys & Girls Club of North Louisiana is opening its doors for summer fun.

After a year hiatus, the employees are ready to have summer camp again.

“With everyone having to go through COVID-19, we were reeling about how can we still serve these kids. They’re going through so much right now,” Director of Development Tabby Truxillo said.

Children are one step closer to a more normal summer.

“It’s so great to be able to put your eyes on the kids. Put your arms around them whenever you’re not socially distancing. To know that they’re in a safe environment that you can provide and help give them some positive outlooks. Lead them to better futures than just being able to sit at home and quarantine,” Truxillo said.

The Boys & Girls Club focuses on character development, academics and healthy lifestyles.

“They have activities where they have different competitions to make sure they’re learning and building that teamwork and camaraderie with their classmates or teammates. We also provide arts and crafts and physical fitness,” Truxillo said.

Children will also have youth development professionals to look out for them.

“They’ll be a mentor, tutor, therapist and pretty much everything to the child for those three to four hours. We’re trying to make an impact the best way we can,” Unit Director Leondre Williams said.

The camp wants to help children have social interaction, fun and sharpen academic skills that will help them live through the pandemic.
