The 26th Annual Boys & Girls Club Golf Classic started off with a special recognition for longtime board member Dr. John Shepard.

Dr. Shepard started the golf classic in 1995, and it has since grown into the biggest fundraiser for the Northeast Region.

For his efforts and continuous support of the organization, the golf classic was officially renamed the Dr. Shepard Golf Classic.

There is no one more deserving and more hardworking than “Doc” as so many affectionally call him.

His family also sent in their sentiments to honor this special ceremony.

Mrs. Gayle Shepard said: “God has created us for good deeds and I’m so very proud that my husband has always fulfilled that command. For 25-plus years, the Boys & Girls Club has been his heart. The youth in our community have benefited greatly from his hard work and dedication. What better way to impact our community and the world than through the lives of the next generation. Congratulations, John! We are so proud of you. Love you.”

Dr. Shepard’s oldest son Clinton said: “The Boys & Girls Club has always been near and dear to my Dad’s heart. For as long as I can remember, he has been involved with the organization. Besides the golf tournament, I can even remember as a kid going to volunteer with him at the Club and as a teenager mowing the ball fields on Evergreen Street. Dad, this honor is well-deserved and thank you for instilling in me the principle of giving back to make a difference in your community.”

Dr. Shepard’s youngest son Grant said: For as long as I can remember, my dad has always been a lot of time and effort into the Boys & Girls Club. I know it is an important organization to him. One of the many ways that he has made a difference is by helping make the golf tournament a success year after year. He is so deserving of this tremendous honor, and I am proud to have such a great man as a father and role model.

Congratulations to you Dr. Shepard. We are proud to have you on our Board of Directors and are truly grateful for all you do to make a difference at the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Louisiana. See gallery below our news section for more photos from the day!
