Northeast Region: How We Serve When We Can’t Re-Open Our Doors

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented times for our country, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Louisiana are not immune to the devastating impact of this treacherous pandemic.

Thousands of Boys & Girls Clubs have been affected by temporary closures. However, our organization is finding other ways to support our communities through services like meal programs, school supply giveaways and virtual programming for parents and kids.

The Evergreen Unit in West Monroe partnered with the Ouachita Parish School Board this summer and handed out a total of 1,258 hot lunches for kids (ages 18 and under) every weekday throughout the summer.

These meals also included a pre-packaged breakfast for the next morning and were offered through walk-up or drive-thru services.

The Evergreen Unit also partnered with Healthy Blue and gave out school supplies in a drive-thru format at the end of the July. A total of 397 students received boxes full of supplies to help jumpstart their school year.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it was more important than ever to help kids as they prepare to return to school. Kids under the age of 18 received a school supply box, a boxed lunch and free snowballs.

Though it fills out hearts to help those in need, we are counting down the days when we can reopen our doors and welcome our kids off the school buses through our afterschool program.

As you can imagine, we are eager to get back to what we do best, serve the needs of kids and families in our communities.

Although school as we know it has changed, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Louisiana is here to do whatever it takes to ensure all kids have equal access to resources and opportunities to help them have a great future. Your support will help us continue to provide much-needed meals, supplies, and virtual or in-person assistance from our well-trained mentors. Even though these are uncertain times, let’s make sure all kids stay on a path towards a great future.
